Happy Trails

13 Sep

Guest Confession:  My husband and I love road trips!  A basket full of junk food and an ice chest full of drinks and we were set!  Now with two munchkins things have changed a bit.  Not wanting to give up our footloose and fancy free lifestyle I had to get creative and thanks to some great products and a sturdy shop vac we can travel happily… usually…

One Step Ahead has the Deluxe Snack and Play Travel Tray, a crash tested tray that fits on the car seat so your sweet one can draw and snack and play without constantly dropping everything.

So what to entertain them with?  We are avoiding the DVD player in the car for as long as possible so some alternate ideas are books on CD and sticker books.  A favorite of ours is Ellison the Elephant

Snacks are an integral part of any road trip and our all-time fave is Annie’s Organic Bunny Fruit Snacks, available at Amazon on Subscribe and Save.  I always add in some cereal, like Kashi Heart to Heart, it is not just for eating after all, with some fun paper cups, they have their own texture table in the back seat!  This results in a crazy mess, hence the shop vac, but so worth it!   For drinks, I love these sippy cups, since they have no stoppers inside, cleaning on the go is super simple!

For younger road warriors, a pack of Post-It notes, a feather duster and an empty pill box can take you a long way down the highway!   I usually skim the $1 Spot at Target for little things like this before any trip.  Happy Trails!

It’s a Wrap

27 Oct

Day after day I agonize about what to wear.  My postpartum, breastfeeding body is simply not cooperating.  After much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments I pull something on and head out with my two little candies.  Upon arrival at whatever toddler class or errand stop we have on the sked, it hits me.  It matters not what I wear, as I will be wearing an arm candy!  Who cares if my sweater looks a bit full on top, the most eye-catching thing I have is my little one, snug in my amazing Pikkolo carrier, by Catbird Baby.

Baby-wearing has taken off and the possibilities are endless, way beyond the traditional Baby Bjorn and Ergo carriers.  There are Mei Tai’s, Ring Slings, the Beco and the Action Baby Carrier, just to name a few of my favorites.  You can choose prints or solids, brights or neutrals.  For me, it is all about keeping my little one close and still having two hands to play with my toddler.  When the little one is grumpy, all I have to do is begin buckling the carrier on and she calms down knowing that soon she will be cozy and close.  One of the most difficult aspects of parenting multiple children is meeting everyone’s needs and these carriers make it just a bit easier.

A Guest Confession

The following Guest Confession was submitted by Ginny.  She is a fabulous mother of two from Seattle!  Interested in submitting an Arm Candy Guest Confession? Send me an email!

My confession? I am a clean freak.  Surfaces, baseboards, door handles, etc., I want it all sparkling! Is this possible with two arm candies under the age of three?  Not so much….But I have discovered a few things to get me headed in the right direction. Prior to my little ones, I was happy to use whatever means necessary to get things clean, now I want to be conscious of their safety and well-being.  Enter two terrific Earth and kid-friendly products….Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Spray and Method Tub Tile Flushable Wipes.

Seventh Generation Disinfecting Spray is a fabulous product for the kitchen that uses Thymol, a component of thyme oil, to disinfect and kill nasty things like Staph and Salmonella.  It is an amazing alternative to cleaners with bleach.  For the bathroom I love the Method Tub Tile Flushable Wipes, so much so I buy them by the case delivered at regular intervals from Amazon.com.  These wipes clean everything streak free, counters, sinks, even mirrors and the best part is they are flushable! I use these wipes all over the house, not just in the bathroom.  They are SO versatile!

I will leave you with one more kid-friendly cleaning tip that requires no cleaner at all! We all know that microwaves can get gross and are a pain to clean.  Who wants to use smelly cleaners somewhere food is cooked?  My solution, fill a microwave safe bowl with one cup vinegar and a half cup of water, place in the microwave and turn it on for 2 minutes.  Wait about a minute after the timer dings, then take out the bowl and wipe down the inside of the oven.  Everything will come off like magic and you are literally using something edible to do it!
